Clearwater Florida is a beautiful city located along the coast of the Gulf of Mexico and part of the Tampa Bay area. One of three major cities in Pinellas County, Clearwater is in the county seat and has a population of approximately 116,000. The city is bordered by Largo, Safety Harbor, Oldsmar, and Dunedin with close proximity to Palm Harbor, Tarpon Springs, and St Petersburg. There is so much available in Clearwater, with is why so many call it home. Most residents are full-time, but we are also home to many snowbirds who call Clearwater their second home through the winter months. Downtown Clearwater is separated from Clearwater Beach by the Intracoastal Waterway. Major landmarks in Clearwater include the Clearwater Marine Aquarium and the global headquarters for the Church of Scientology.
Clearwater has a rich history dating back to 1835 when the construction began of Fort Harrison by the United States Army. In 1849 the first road joining Tampa and Clearwater was built which shortened a trip that required a full day to travel. The first passenger railroad line into the city was completed in 1888 and the city was incorporated in 1891. Clearwater Florida was later reincorporated as a city in 1915 and was named the county seat of Pinellas County after breaking from Hillsborough County just a couple of years earlier. A bridge was built in 1915 to join the city to Clearwater Beach.
